Internships

As part of your Postgraduate Publishing studies here at Edinburgh Napier University, we help to provide you with an organised work placement. The aim of our work placement is to read more…

In addition, we have in-house work experience opportunities and publishing internships:

  • Live Projects (publishing real books and magazines as part of Merchiston Publishing)
  • Internships (through our connection with SCOB)

A number of internships are available for Publishing students as part of the Scottish Centre for the Book (SCOB).

Nine graduating or continuing students joined SCOB as RKT interns over the summer of 2009. They were drawn from both undergraduate and taught postgraduate publishing courses at Edinburgh Napier ranging from Computing through Journalism to Publishing. The students worked on a collaborative project involving an external body. These ranged in size and scope from UNESCO to the Scottish Printing Archival Trust.

The two months’ paid publishing internships added value to each student’s cv through the acquisition of new skills, knowledge and understanding of issues and operations outside the university. They provided SCOB and its external partners with energy, enthusiasm and commitment as well as a skill set relevant to the particular project.

At the end of the projects, each publishing intern received a certificate of completion from the Senior Vice Principal Dr Peter Easy at a graduation party in late August attended by most of our external partners.

The next iteration of the scheme will take place in the summer and all external organizations that might have a joint project drawing on the expertise of SCOB and the talents of our students are invited to contact us.

Our Publishing programme also offers an organised work placement with publishing companies in Scotland, across the UK, and even abroad – find out more…
