Study Publishing with the best!
We have 50 years’ experience as a Centre of Excellence in Publishing Education.
We are the first Publishing Programmes in the UK to be industry accredited.
MSc Publishing is the only doubly accredited Publishing programme.
We have been awarded a Creative Skillset Tick, the industry kitemark of quality, and MSc Publishing is the only Publishing programme to have been accredited by the Periodical Training Council (PTC), the lead body for best practice in training, development and people management for the magazine and business media industry. MSc Magazine Publishing* is accredited by the Professional Publishers Association.
* Please note that MSc Magazine Publishing is not running in 2020/21.
We are the ONLY Publishing programmes to achieve these industry endorsements, making us the “standard bearer for publishing in the UK” (quote from the PPA).
These prestigious accolades means our Postgraduate Publishing programme is acknowledged as delivering what the publishing industry demands.

OPPORTUNITIES TO NETWORK WITH INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
You’ll meet industry professionals and authors, work on live projects (publishing books and magazines), take part in visits to publishers and printers, and get the opportunity to undertake a work placement. The course is also supported by industry bodies such as Publishing Scotland and the Professional Publishers Association.
One of the major advantages of our Masters in Publishing is the opportunity it provides for networking with industry professionals. Students can attend the London International Book Fair, the Edinburgh International Book Fair, Magfest, as well as various book festivals and magazine award ceremonies.
Each month students have the opportunity to meet informally with industry professionals at the UNESCO Literary Salon, and to socialise with publishers from all sectors of the industry at numerous book launches, literary events, author readings, etc.
Links have been established with Calcutta University, University of Leipzig and Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, among others, as part of our focus on international publishing.
CENTRE FOR RESEARCH
Our Masters programmes are closely linked with the world-renowned Scottish Centre for the Book, a centre for research and scholarship into print culture and publishing history, which hosts seminars and conferences, and acts as a focus for research into books and reading.
Edinburgh Napier University is also the proud holder of the Edward Clark Collection, a major collection of around 4,500 rare and valuable works relating to publishing and print media. We are also home to the Robert Louis Stevenson Collection.
We are passionate about publishing and about sharing our expertise with you, the next generation of publishers. All our staff are highly qualified experts in their fields and successful publishing practitioners, and are passionate about publishing, so you can benefit from our wealth of experience and excellent industry links (meet the programme team).
Our one-year full-time (or two year part-time) publishing programmes are for recently qualified graduates who intend to enter the publishing industry. We also attract people already working in publishing or bookselling who are seeking the opportunity for special training and experience.
Postgraduate Publishing at Edinburgh Napier Univeristy offers a range of specialised skills in editorial skills, marketing, design, production and management as well as that all-important work placement. The dissertation (completed in trimester 3) enables you to embark upon a substantial piece of research into relevant industry issues and practices – many students have used this opportunity to tailor their research to their chosen career path.
On our Publishing postgraduate programmes you will gain a wide range of skills and specialised professional knowledge and understanding which will make you ideally placed to enter the publishing industry – book or magazine – with advanced standing in the UK or overseas.
Many of our students secure publishing employment even before graduating, find out more…
