Postgraduate Publishing studies at Edinburgh Napier University. INDUSTRY APPROVED Publishing degrees (accredited by the Professional Publishers Association and Creative Skillset). MSc Publishing was the first Publishing programme in the UK to be accredited by the Professional Publishers Association (PPA). It is now accredited by Creative Skillset (only one of two courses to hold this award). MSc Magazine Publishing is the only course of its kind in Scotland and is the only publishing course in the UK to be accredited by the PPA. The PPA is the lead body for best practice in training, development and people management for the magazine and business media industry.
I chose The Library Window, as my Publishing Production project, as I wanted to publish a book in the supernatural genre. Margaret Oliphant, a Scottish author, was well-known for writing ghost stories in her day, so I looked into a few of her stories. What intrigued me about this specific story, was the combination of two supernatural themes. The very obvious ghost theme, and the more indirectly mentioned cursed diamond ring theme.
About the editor and designer
I’m Sinead, an MSc Publishing student at Edinburgh Napier University. My blog Huntress of Diverse Books focuses on reviewing and promoting diverse books. I’m also a co-host at Lit CelebrAsian, an initiative aiming to uplift Asian voices in literature.
Last week ideas were abundant and emotions were high as we approached the final deadline for submitting our book files for assessment. The production team was hard at work packaging the chapter pages, prelims, afterwords and the finalised covers for The Glorious Thing and Olalla.Although the majority of this work fell to the production team, it was down to everyone to pitch in and lend a hand in order to ensure the work was completed on time to meet the deadline.
Now that the packaged book is in the safe hands of our module leaders, it’s time to focus on distribution and marketing.
We also look forward to receiving Catriona Murray and Lucy Feather at Merchiston campus this afternoon. They will be here to listen to a presentation from our publishing group, and we expect to be asked some really interesting and challenging questions about our work!
One of the most exciting aspects of the undergraduate and postgraduate Publishing degrees here at Edinburgh Napier University are the live projects.
For the past 3 years, Edinburgh Napier University has been responsible for several student-run projects, specifically book production and book launches. This year we are proud to launch our first Postgraduate Publishing magazine…
