It’s 9a.m. on a Tuesday morning and the editorial team have their game face on. We pump ourselves up with the first coffee of the day and a rendition of Eye of the Tiger, and now we’re ready to attack our fifth round of edits to David Lindsay’s A Voyage to Arcturus.

After last week’s punctuation-focussed effort, today’s aim is to improve the text’s fluidity by getting rid of any excessive conjunctions. We want to get through all (378) pages of the novel by the end of the day, but it’s a silent battle we’re fighting. While the marketing department are busy talking branding and media schedules, the editorial team are sitting silently in front of our screens, immersed in the fine details of the text itself, armed with headphones and a jammin’ playlist to keep us focussed.

Here’s our sci-fi inspired playlist of the day:
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- The xx, Intro
- David Bowie, Life on Mars
- Radiohead, Subterranean Homesick Alien
- Elton John, Rocket Man
- Daft Punk, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
- Europe, The Final Countdown
- The Steve Miller Band, Space Cowboy
