This week: an insight into the behind the scenes workings of the AVTA marketing team!
The AVTA marketing team have primarily been busy creating a strong digital presence through the use of Facebook, Twitter & Instagram with consistent and iconic branding. This began with the creation of a strong communications strategy in which we outlined our specific target market (the science fiction community) and our plans to reach them, with a goal of not only growing our follower numbers, but also reaching high levels of engagement.
The AVTA Facebook is a hub of info – we use the page to share all kinds of discursive content from various sources.
Our most popular content includes videos (handmade by our marketing team), photos & gifs, as well as quotes from authors.
Twitter is one of the strongest – and most time consuming – platforms for our marketing team! We use our twitter to promote where we are, what we are doing and how the project is progressing, using words, pictures and video (and a space-themed Spotify playlist courtesy of editorial), as well as tapping into the existing Sci Fi conversation through the use of strategic hashtags e.g. #SciFiHour.
Early on, the AVTA marketing team made a decision to use Instagram primarily to create content to be shared on our other platforms (including this blog!). We share a selection of photos of the progress of our design projects, as well as videos and pictures of us attending events, in addition to a series of throwbacks to vintage covers of A Voyage to Arcturus.
The marketing team are also working away behind the scenes to ensure AVTA has a presence at various publishing and sci fi events – avid followers of the blog will be up to date with our many voyages to the Publishing Scotland Conference, the SYP Scotland Conference, our partner Shoreline of Infinity’s monthly Event Horizon & most recently London Book Fair.
